Chrysalis began as a simple pencil sketch on a to-do list, a fleeting idea that evolved, layer by layer, into something far more. This piece was custom made and donated to Caritas Communities, a non-profit that focuses on “providing for holistic care that is housing-focused and person-centered”. 

At the center of the piece is a hand-sculpted paper-mâché clay vase, representing the chrysalis that holds the caterpillar as it prepares for flight. Reminding us that within a safe, nurturing environment, profound growth and renewal can take place.

In this piece, the flowers symbolize inner bloom; the gentle, unseen growth that precedes emergence. When a person has a space of their own, a place to rest, restore, and belong—they, too, can begin to transform their life. 

Each detail serves as a meditation on patience, vulnerability, and change. Bordered with hand-twisted bamboo fibers and painted with rich layers of acrylic, every texture and tone reflects slow and deliberate unfolding.
